A few years ago a client asked us to help with his purchase of and subsequent restoration of a 280SL. He found this 1969 model in Pasadena, still in the hands of the original owner’s family. She happened to be the 1948 Rose Queen and later, for her 25th wedding anniversary, instead of the mink she had asked for, she received this Mercedes. What follows is the photo documentation of turning our client’s dream, into reality.

Restoration in our shop for a client in Norway. All new upholstery, correct engine wiring and engine bay cosmetics.

Fully restored between 1992 & 1994 with only 3852 show and maintenance miles since. This restoration totaled $152,000 and remember, those are early 1990’s dollars! Complete portfolio included that documents and photo documents the restoration. She has four trophies under her belt so far!

This Southern California car has been sympathetically reconditioned in our restoration shop with an eye to preserving originality, authenticity and performing preventative maintenance for reliable, turn-key motoring. Not just a pretty face; we have attended to the hidden functionality items bringing this car back to the standards which Daimler-Benz is famous for. When one realizes that this work consumed 275 labor hours it is easy to understand why most moderately priced cars on the market have what can politely be called hidden “Deferred Maintenance” issues. That $10,000 free-internet-ad-site car seems like a good “deal” and maybe it is, for the do-it-yourselfer or for someone who does not have high standards for driving and enjoying their “Classic”  –  $39,500

1969 280SL – The “Holy Grail”

Simply put, this the most original W113 280SL we have ever seen.

Restored by Red Horse Restorations(Minnesota). All of the invoices are included plus a complete photo documentary binder of the restoration process. $140,000

Gray-Beige over Beige, Auto, A/C, Hardtop & Soft top. Our full, insane Motoring Investments signature restoration (more like a re-manufacture), all done in our workshops and fully photo documented! Without question, it is among the very best in the world. $250,000

Congratulations Ed Cave!
