Determining value on a 560SL – Certainly, there are super low mileage examples available. However, odometer readings are not the only driver of value. First, one must look at the car and logically make the determination that the condition the car matches the odometer reading. Has the upholstery already been renewed? If so, one can draw their own conclusions and one should be skeptical of history reports. Automated reports can miss things and odometers are known to fail.

From here, one should be aware that with all collector cars, the more original the better. Top modern collectibles (560’s) are essentially “all original,” meaning they are still wearing their original paint and have their original upholstery. Obviously, there has never been a crash or repair to the body. In the real world this is rare – and why highly original examples sell for the highest prices. This particular example has been confirmed by expert in-person examination with aid of an electronic paint meter.

Another aspect of value is the sort of servicing a vehicle has had. In this case, as our clients used this car for a tour, and demanded a trouble-free drive, about six months ago they spent approximately $15,000 servicing all mechanical components, air-conditioning, and the comfort system, so that this car would function absolutely as the factory intended. These invoices are available and in-person car inspections are encouraged.

The original owner of this final year 560SL was a U.S. military pilot who, we are told, was at one time a trainer for the NASA space shuttle program. Pilots are known to be meticulous with their servicing which goes a long way towards explaining the fine mechanical state this car is in.

About one year ago our clients, Swedish citizens, purchased it in order to do their dream trip to, “See America” along the famous Route 66. After purchase, they had a complete service performed on the Mercedes Benz 560SL including a thorough replacement of air-conditioning components, installation of new tires, shock absorbers, chassis bushings, wheel bearings, water pump, timing chain as well as new fuel lines and fuel pump to ensure reliability on their journey. In total, the servicing amounted to roughly $15,000 to bring the car up to high standard. Records of service are available at the bottom of the page for more information.

We were acquainted with these clients through their membership in the Pagoda Group, an international Mercedes W113 club as they own several of these models as well. Their intention from the beginning was to purchase this car, make their trip, and then have us offer the car to the next caretaker since they had no reason to ship the car home.

This car is essentially all-original with just over 65,000 miles. Paint meter readings document the completely original factory paint. This car runs and drives fabulous in every respect, exactly the way Mercedes-Benz intended. It retains all matching-numbers: engine, gear box, etc. Even the M-B soft top is original to the car and the OEM Becker radio with power antenna is still in place. Factory assembly and inspection markings are visible on numerous undercarriage components. Offered with Original Books, Tools, Keys, and the unused Spare tire.

This is a collector-quality dream-vehicle that stands ready to be driven
